John Anderson was born on 18 December 1916 in Glasgow, Scotland.

He lived in Auburn when he enlisted in July 1940 and joined the battalion on 25 November 1940.

Following the fall of Singapore he became a prisoner of war and worked on the Thai-Burma railway as part of F Force - Ponds Party.

John returned to Australia after the end of the war.
