ANDERSON Joseph Carlton VX54494 B Coy J Force

Pte Joseph Carlton ANDERSON was born 29.7.1917 in Redfern, Sydney. He enlisted in May 1941 and joined the Battalion 3.7.1941.

Joseph embarked for Singapore with the rest of the Battalion late July 1941.

In October Pte Anderson was admitted to hospital with Poliomyelitis (polio) affecting his left arm. He was placed on the Battalion X list.

Following the fall of Singapore Joseph became a prisoner of war. He was sent to Japan in May 1943 as part of J Force.

Following the end of the war he was recovered from the camp at Fukuoka.

Joseph Anderson died 23.8.1978 in Cairns, aged 61.
