Private Gilbert Saunders was born in Kyabram on 12 April 1906.

Gilbert was a carpenter was he enlisted on 9 July 1940 at Caulfield. He was posted to the 2/29th on 29.11.1940 from the 2/7 training battalion.

He died a prisoner of war on 28 July 1943.
