HORSBURGH Robert John VX45055 B Coy [A Force]

Private (Pte) VX45055 Robert John (Jack) Horsburgh, 2/29 Battalion of Melbourne, Vic. Pte Horsburgh enlisted in July 1940 and became a prisoner of war following the fall of the Japanese in February 1942.

He and 1158 other prisoners were being transported to Japan on board the Rakuyo Maru when it was was sunk by the submarine USS Sea Lion on 12 September 1944.

Pte Horsburgh died at sea on 14 September 1944. He was 22 years of age, his name is commemorated on the Labuan Memorial, Malaysia.
