BATTLE OF MUAR

SHRINE OF REMEMBRANCE

19th JANUARY 2014 at 2 PM

It was heartening to see such a good attendance for our Annual Pilgrimage and Service. Well done to all those who braved the hot weather, particularly those who had distances to travel.

This year none of our surviving veterans was well enough to attend, but it was pleasing to see a number of new faces and to be able to put a name to those who have recently become members. This bodes well for the future of the 2/29th Battalion AIF Association.

It was very special to see Katie and Missy along with their Dad Simon and grandfather Ron lay the wreath. This is the 3rd generation of Captain Charles Lovett's family who have been actively involved in the Association.

Afternoon tea (our thanks to Sue Lack) gave everyone a chance to catch up and make new contacts. It is surprising how many people are still seeking information on their family member. Days such as this are so important. They gives us all a chance to get together, not only to remember all those remarkable men, but to share and help each other in our search for information, which is often so hard to find.

We were fortunate in obtaining a grant through the Victorian Veterans Council, Veterans Fund Commemoration and Community Education Grants, which made it possible to cover the costs of this year's service.
