2015 2/29th Battalion Association Golf Day

The inaugural 2/29th Battalion Association Golf Day took place at the Burnley Golf Course Richmond attracting twelve players (and entourage).

In fine, sunny conditions the nine-hole competition was played under the Callaway Scoring System ensuring that all participants played at or close to a handicap that was applicable to their relative golfing prowess.

The Bob Christie Memorial Trophy (pictured) was the ultimate prize and on which the winner’s name is placed together with the winning score. No one anticipated the tight scoring range or the triumphant winner.

In 1st place with a remarkable 32 points was...Janella Christie! In 2nd place with 34 points, achieved after a nerve-racking ‘putt-off’ occurring on the practice green when three other players (Ash Christie; Ron Lovett and Gary Simmons also recording scores of 34) was Grant McKay and 3rd place went to Gary Simmons. Registered scores ranged from 34 to 40 and included players who had never before swung a club!

Mrs Berris Christie, in honour of Bob presented daughter Janella with the trophy at a very emotional presentation ceremony. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house!

All present were extremely pleased with the event and gave undertakings to return to have a crack at next year’s perpetual trophy.

The Committee, on behalf of all members and friends of the 2/29th Battalion Association would like to offer its sincere thanks and gratitude to the sponsors of the event, Harvey Norman (via Mr Ryan Ford of RFM Agencies); D’Angelo Estate Vinyard at Officer Victoria (via Mrs Sabrina D’Angelo) and Mr Ron Lovett (Coast2Coast Corporate Finance, Phillip Island).

We invite all friends and family of the 2/29th Battalion Association to attend the next Golf Day (date to be advised) and anticipate another wonderful event played in the spirit of friendship and a common bond.

Grant McKay
