This is an Open Invitation to all Members and Friends of the Battalion to join us for a Spring Sunday afternoon Picnic at Bacchus Marsh and to visit the site of the Darley Training Camp where the 2/29th trained before heading overseas.
Enjoy a picnic at Federation Avenue Park located on Bacchus Marsh-Gisborne Road. At the park there is a Rotunda with information about the Darley Camp and the 2/29th. The Park has a toilet block, limited park benches and tables as well as adequate car parking. The park does not have BBQ facilities.
The Old site of the Darley Camp is situated on the right hand side of Cameron’s Road approximately 4km from Federation Avenue Park. It is marked by a Commemorative Plaque surrounded by a low chain fence.
It is recommended that you view the information boards in the Rotunda at Federation Avenue Park before heading to Darley Camp site as this will give you a better vision and understanding of the camp layout. When at Darley Camp Plaque you might be able to see old foundations of the old buildings in the paddock opposite the Plaque.
B.Y.O. Lunch & drinks, BBQ if desired, folding chairs, picnic blanket and anything else you feel will make your day more comfortable.
